THINK CITY TUTORING

The best teachers.  For the best results.

Math Spacilist For Kids

YOUR CHILD CAN BE A CONFIDENT MATH STUDENT

We’ve walked alongside children just like yours: they avoid math, they want you right next to them so they can avoid making a mistake, they’re confused all too often, they blank when problems are worded just a little bit different, and math leads to meltdowns.  A lot of them.  But, we’re here to change this.  With expert instruction and with an investment of time, your child can become a confident and successful math student.  This is our goal.  And along the way, maybe they’ll even decide they actually like that four-letter m-word.

The Best Teachers

Teachers matter, and they matter a lot.  We know that the best recipe for success is intensive support from an expert teacher.  This is why we hire only the best teachers.  Teachers who have taught for years, teachers who have specific training in teaching struggling students, and teachers who are passionate.  Why?  Because when you have the best teachers, you get the best results.

Individualized Learning

We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.  Sure, it can lead to progress, but it’s just not efficient. We only do 1:1 tutoring with expert teachers because that’s what consistently yields the best outcomes.  Likewise, we don’t rush students through a curriculum.  Instead, we make sure their foundation is solid.  Why?  Because when you rush students, then they don’t truly understand math concepts, and you set them up for difficulty down the road.  That’s not solving the problem, that’s kicking the problem down the road.

Number Sense

We focus on number sense.  A lot.  To put it plainly, number sense is the foundation of math success.  What is it?  It’s being aware of numbers, their visual relationships, and thinking flexibly with them.  Let me give you an example: it’s being able to solve 49+13 in a bunch of different ways.  For instance you could change 49 to 50, add 13, then subtract one.  Or, you could separate the tens and ones, adding 40 + 10, then 9 + 3.  Or, you could start with 49, add 10, then add 3 more.  Students who can solve this problem different ways have good number sense.  And, when students have good number sense, then they’re ready to not just tackle math, but truly understand it.
